President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the 2027 general election after polling 10,999,162 votes in the party’s nationwide presidential primaries.

The result was announced on Sunday, 24th May, 2026 at the International Conference Centre in Abuja by the Chairman of the APC Presidential Election Committee, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, following the collation of votes from across the country.

Tinubu, who received the party’s certificate of return and symbolic flag from APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, pledged to consolidate ongoing economic reforms, strengthen national security, and sustain infrastructure development if re-elected for a second term.

“In accepting this nomination, I renew my commitment to serve our nation with even greater determination,” the President declared before party faithful, governors, lawmakers, ministers, and other APC stakeholders gathered at the venue.

“With another four years of disciplined focus and national cooperation, we will firmly place Nigeria on an irreversible path of economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security, infrastructure development, food sufficiency, and democratic consolidation,” he added.

According to the election committee, the APC primaries were conducted in line with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), electoral laws, and the party’s constitution. Voting reportedly took place across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, 774 local government areas, and 8,809 wards on Saturday, May 23, 2026.

Anyim disclosed that out of 12,643,316 registered party members, 11,069,746 were accredited, while 11,015,665 members cast their votes during the exercise. Tinubu’s sole challenger, Stanley Osifo, secured 16,503 votes.

The President used the occasion to highlight key achievements of his administration over the past three years, urging party members to showcase the APC’s record since assuming power in 2015.

He pointed to reforms in taxation and fiscal policy, improved revenue generation, and the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, which he said has disbursed over N282 billion to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries.

On power sector reforms, Tinubu stated that his administration had supplied 2.5 million electricity meters through the Presidential Metering Initiative and initiated a N4 trillion bond programme to settle verified debts owed to power generation and gas companies.

He also defended the removal of fuel subsidies and exchange rate reforms, adding that the policies were beginning to yield positive economic outcomes.

“We moved away from wasteful fuel subsidies, unstable exchange rates, and weak infrastructure. Today, we are witnessing a turnaround: the naira is strengthening, foreign reserves are rising, and our economic outlook is positive,” he said.

The President further highlighted ongoing infrastructure projects, including the coastal highway and the Sokoto-Badagry superhighway, while promising continued investments in transportation, housing, digital connectivity, and irrigation.

Addressing concerns over insecurity in parts of the country, Tinubu assured Nigerians that restoring peace and stability remains a top priority of his administration. “We will not rest until we restore peace and stability to every corner of our country,” he said.

The President also extended an olive branch to opposition parties, calling for dialogue and cooperation in nation-building. “Democracy is sustained not by uniformity, but by diversity, by a shared belief in the nation and the blending of ideas,” Tinubu stated.

The event drew attendance from serving and former governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, presidential aides, members of the APC National Working Committee, and other senior party officials.
