A factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, has been arraigned before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court sitting in Maitama over allegations of providing false information to the police.

Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), was docked on Wednesday, 22nd April,2026 following a petition said to have been authored by him on October 5, 2022. The prosecution, led by the office of the Inspector-General of Police, accused the PDP chieftain of deliberately supplying misleading information intended to prompt police action against one Saidi Mainasara.

Upon the reading of the charge, Turaki pleaded not guilty, setting the stage for what could become a closely watched legal battle with political undertones.

Presiding over the matter, the trial judge granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦100 million, with conditions yet to be fully disclosed at the time of filing this report. The case was subsequently adjourned to allow for the commencement of trial proceedings.

The development adds another layer to the ongoing internal disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party, as factional leadership tussles continue to generate legal and political confrontations.

Legal analysts say the outcome of the trial may have broader implications, not only for Turaki’s political standing but also for the party’s fragile unity ahead of future electoral contests.
