The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, has urged Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to fast-track the completion of ongoing infrastructural projects in Ile-Ife, particularly the Lagere Flyover, describing it as critical to the economic growth of the ancient city.
The monarch made the call on Wednesday, 22nd April,2026 while hosting the governor at the historic Ile Oodua Palace during a courtesy visit.
Governor Adeleke, who arrived with the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, alongside top government officials and supporters, was warmly received by the Ooni, eminent traditional rulers, and palace dignitaries.
Speaking during the visit, Adeleke expressed admiration for the monarch, describing him as a charismatic and highly respected traditional ruler. He explained that his visit formed part of efforts to monitor ongoing projects and ensure effective service delivery across the state.
“I am in Ife for an empowerment programme and to inspect ongoing projects, including road constructions and the Lagere Flyover. Where necessary, we will direct contractors to accelerate work for timely delivery,” the governor said.
In his remarks, the Ooni commended Adeleke’s leadership style, highlighting his humility, simplicity, and commitment to inclusive governance. He noted that developmental projects under the administration are visible across various communities in Osun State.
“You have demonstrated that leadership is about service to all, not a select few. Your projects are spread across the state, and our people can see the impact,” the monarch stated.
However, he appealed to the governor to ensure contractors handling key projects in Ile-Ife expedite work to meet delivery timelines. He emphasized the strategic importance of the Lagere Flyover, describing it as a major hub for economic and social activities within the Ife Federal Constituency.
“Lagere is a vital point for economic and social activities in this region. Its timely completion will greatly ease movement and boost commerce,” he added.
Looking ahead to the forthcoming Osun governorship election, the Ooni offered prayers for peace and stability, urging political stakeholders to prioritize unity and the collective interest of the state.
“As the election approaches, I pray for peaceful conduct and continued progress in Osun State,” he said.
The visit underscores ongoing collaboration between traditional institutions and the state government in driving development and maintaining social harmony across Osun State.
