The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s defence capabilities through enhanced collaboration with local institutions.

This follows a courtesy visit to the Minister’s office by a delegation from the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON), led by Umar Mohammed Alkali, alongside members of its top management team.

The visit centred on fostering strategic cooperation between DICON and the Ministry of Interior, particularly as Nigeria prepares to host the Africa International Defence Exhibition, scheduled to take place later this year in Lagos.

Speaking after the meeting, Tunji-Ojo described the engagement as “highly productive and insightful,” stressing that strengthening institutional support for indigenous defence innovation is critical to national security.

He noted that investing in home-grown solutions would not only enhance Nigeria’s security architecture but also position the country as a key player in Africa’s defence industry.

The Minister further assured that the government would continue to promote synergy among relevant agencies, including intelligence bodies and other stakeholders, to drive innovation and build a resilient defence industrial base.

The planned AFRIDEX 2026 is expected to serve as a major platform for showcasing Nigeria’s defence capabilities, attracting global participants, and fostering partnerships aimed at advancing security solutions across the continent.
