The Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, on Monday, 8th December,2025 officially received 100 students of St Mary’s Catholic School who were rescued after being abducted on November 21, 2025.
The students were handed over to the governor at the Government House, Minna, by Wing Commander Abdullahi Idi Hong, who represented the National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
While speaking during the handover, the NSA’s representative said the Federal Government would continue to implement measures that guarantee the safety of communities across the country. “We will continue to come up with policies to ensure the safety of every Nigerian child,” he said.
In his remarks, Governor Bago described the children’s rescue as “fundamental in redefining the history of Niger State.” He expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu, the NSA and all partners involved in the operation.
The governor, however, appealed for sustained prayers for the safe return of other students and teachers still held by the abductors.
“We will continue to also pray for the recovery of the remaining children in captivity. We will ensure they are reunited with their parents soon,” Bago said.
After the brief ceremony, buses conveyed the students to Kontagora, where they are expected to reunite with their parents and families.
