The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has disclosed that voting will not take place in two Polling Units (PUs) during the forthcoming Anambra Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

He made this known on Tuesday, 28th October, 2025 at the meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) for the Anambra poll, explaining that the decision was due to the absence of registered voters in the affected units.

According to him, INEC will deploy a total number of 24,000 personnel across 5,718 out of the 5,720 Polling Units where eligible voters are registered to participate.

“The election will be held in 5,718 Polling Units; voting will not take place in the remaining two due to the absence of registered voters,” the INEC boss stated.

While speaking on behalf of ICCES, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, represented by Hassan Abdullahi, assured that comprehensive security arrangements have been made to guarantee a peaceful and credible election.

Ribadu noted that security agencies have enhanced surveillance operations and intelligence gathering to forestall any attempts by mischief-makers or desperate politicians to disrupt the exercise.

“We are deploying sufficient personnel and working closely with political parties and local stakeholders to ensure peace. Any act of violence will be met with a firm and uncompromising response,” he warned.

He further urged political parties and their candidates to promote peace, uphold the integrity of the electoral process, and discourage their supporters from engaging in any form of violence or electoral misconduct.

The November 8 governorship poll is expected to be a major test of Nigeria’s electoral and security readiness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
