Electricity distribution companies in Nigeria received 254,404 customer complaints in the first quarter of 2025, with faulty metering, billing errors, and service interruptions accounting for 62.77% of the issues.

Metering accounted for 42.84% of total complaints (108,918 cases), with Kano and Eko DisCos reporting 25,988 and 17,972 cases, respectively

Billing on the other hand accounted for 12.27% of total complaints (31,215 cases), resulting in 32.2 billion naria in customer refunds due to over billing.

Service Interruption accounted for 7.66% of total complaints (19,486 cases). The Top 5 DisCos with the Most Complaints are: Port Harcourt DisCo accounted for 57,843 complaints (22.74% of national total),Ibadan DisCo is 42,393 complaints, Eko DisCo is 36,780 complaints, Kano DisCo is 32,251 complaints, with an 86% spike from Q4 2024 and Ikeja DisCo is 25,555 complaints.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has pledged to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and customer service protocols to address these issues and restore public trust in the electricity sector.
