The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the official postings of 65 Nigerian ambassadors and high commissioners to diplomatic missions across the world, marking a significant step in strengthening the country’s foreign relations and international engagement.

The appointments comprise 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career envoys, whose nominations were earlier confirmed by the Senate in December, 2025..

In a Press Release issued on Friday, 6th March,2026 by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the new ambassadors will represent Nigeria in various countries as well as at the United Nations, covering strategic diplomatic, economic, and multilateral missions.

Amongst the prominent non-career appointees are former Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, who has been posted to Canada, former Minister of Interior Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd), who will serve in China, and former Lagos State Deputy Governor Olufemi Pedro, who is posted to Australia.

Other notable individuals include Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Lateef Kayode Are to the United States, Ayodele Oke to France, and Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) to the Philippines.

Similarly, former Senate Chief Whip Senator Ita Enang will serve in South Africa, while former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has been assigned to Spain. Reno Omokri has been posted to Mexico, while Aminu Dalhatu will serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

The President in addition approved the postings of 31 career diplomats, who will head missions in several countries including Egypt, Senegal, Morocco, Belgium, Switzerland, Malaysia, Tanzania, Kenya, Thailand, Algeria, Niger, and Ghana.

According to the Presidency, the United Kingdom has already granted agrément for the High Commissioner-designate, Ambassador Aminu Dalhatu, while France has approved agrément for Ambassador Ayodele Oke.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has also formally transmitted the nominations of the remaining 62 ambassadors-designate to their respective host countries, requesting diplomatic approval in accordance with international practice.

President Tinubu has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately begin the induction programme for the ambassadors and high commissioners-designate to prepare them for their assignments.

The new envoys are expected to play critical roles in advancing Nigeria’s diplomatic interests, promoting economic partnerships, strengthening bilateral relations, and representing the country in multilateral engagements across the globe.
