The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has stepped up preparations for the August 8, 2026 Osun State governorship election with a sensitisation visit to the 2026 Batch C National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Ede.
The programme, held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, was designed to prepare corps members for their expected roles as ad-hoc staff during the forthcoming governorship poll, popularly tagged #2026OsunDecides.
Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, the State Training Officer, Mr. Olawale Ayanleye, underscored the critical role NYSC members play in Nigeria’s electoral process. He noted that corps members make up a significant portion of INEC’s ad-hoc workforce and are therefore central to the conduct of credible, transparent, and peaceful elections.
Mr. Ayanleye charged the corps members to carry out their duties with integrity, neutrality, and a strong sense of responsibility, stressing that their actions before, during, and after the election would greatly influence public confidence in the electoral system.
He further emphasised the importance of strict adherence to INEC guidelines and procedures, adding that professionalism, discipline, and commitment are essential to delivering a free and fair election in Osun State.
The sensitisation exercise forms part of INEC Osun State’s broader preparations for the 2026 governorship election, reflecting the Commission’s commitment to capacity building and sustained stakeholder engagement ahead of the poll.
In their responses, the corps members expressed appreciation to INEC for the initiative, describing it as timely and informative as they prepare to contribute meaningfully to the democratic process in the state.
