In a move aimed at improving service delivery and addressing persistent complaints from passport applicants, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has introduced a new update to its passport tracking system to better inform applicants about the status of their passports.

The update comes amid concerns that hundreds of completed passports had remained uncollected across various passport offices nationwide, largely due to applicants being unaware that their documents were ready. This situation had contributed to growing dissatisfaction and repeated complaints from members of the public.

Under the enhanced system, a new status indicator tagged “PRODUCED (PASSPORT PRODUCED, READY FOR COLLECTION)” has been added. The feature clearly notifies applicants when their passports have been produced and are ready for pickup at designated collection centres.

According to the NIS, the upgrade strengthens the existing tracking platform by providing clearer timelines for passports that have been produced and are awaiting physical collection, as well as those produced but yet to be delivered through courier services.

Officials say the innovation is expected to significantly reduce delays in passport collection, ease congestion at passport offices, and improve overall transparency in the passport issuance process.

The Nigeria Immigration Service reaffirmed its commitment to deploying efficient, technology-driven solutions that enhance user experience and align its operations with global best practices.

Applicants are encouraged to regularly check the NIS passport tracking portal to stay updated on the status of their applications and collection schedules.
