Ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election in Osun State, a two-term former Commissioner for Finance, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, a.k.a AMBO, has been affirmed as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oyebamiji’s emergence followed the party’s governorship primary held on Saturday, 13 December 2025 in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, where he was adopted as the consensus candidate of the party.

While announcing the decision, former governorship aspirant Kunle Rasheed Adegoke said Oyebamiji’s affirmation was in line with the resolution of the APC National Working Committee, adding that all other aspirants had agreed to step down in his favour.

“I, Kunle Adegoke, with the consent of all other aspirants, move the motion that Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, be adopted as the consensus candidate to contest the 2026 governorship election. I so move,” Adegoke declared.

The motion was seconded by Senator Babajide Omoworare, effectively sealing Oyebamiji’s adoption as the party’s flagbearer. Subsequently, all 1,660 accredited delegates present at the primary cast their votes in support of Oyebamiji.

Other aspirants at the venue included former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Akin Ogunbiyi, Dotun Babayemi, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, and Oralusi, all of whom endorsed the consensus arrangement.

The Chairman of the Osun APC Governorship Primary Election Committee who is also the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, thereafter announced Oyebamiji as the duly nominated candidate of the party.

In his acceptance speech, Oyebamiji called for unity within the party, urging former aspirants and members to work collectively towards securing victory for the APC in the 2026 general election.

He also led a one-minute silence in honour of the late immediate past APC State Chairman, Oba Gboyega Famodun, the Owa of Igbajo, who joined his ancestors recently and a former Irewolede Local Government Chairman, Hon. Abass, who was murdered during the recent local government leadership crisis in the state.

Oyebamiji pledged to run an inclusive campaign focused on restoring the APC to power in Osun State come 2026.
