…First Underground Tunnel in Africa to Begin Soon

The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGOF), Surv. Abuduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, has assured that the Federal Government’s blueprint to comprehensively map Nigeria remains firmly on course, stressing that no one can challenge the presidential directive moving the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation (OSGOF) to the Presidency.

He made the declaration while receiving members of the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors (NIS), Abuja branch, in his office. He disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu expressed keen interest after learning that Nigeria’s last national mapping exercise was carried out in the 1970s.

“This is the first time we are having real surveying in Nigeria under the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President. No one can challenge a presidential order,” the SGOF stated.

Highlighting ongoing federal infrastructure projects, Adebomehin revealed that plans were underway to construct a tunnel linking Victoria Island to Badagry in Lagos State, which he described as the first of its kind in Africa.

Adebomehim said that moving OSGOF to the Presidency would unlock the office’s full potential, free it from bureaucratic bottlenecks, and position the surveying profession for greater national development.

Earlier in his remark, Surv. Robert Coker, Head of Hydrography at OSGOF, warned that opposing the relocation of the office amounted to challenging presidential authority. He called on surveyors to protect the image of the profession and guide upcoming practitioners.

Similarly, NIS FCT Secretary, Surv. Alfred Adeojo, commended the SGOF’s courage, adding that the move signaled brighter prospects for the profession and set a model of bold leadership for younger surveyors.
