The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Kano Zonal Command, has taken custody of 12 female victims of human trafficking rescued in Kano.

The victims, aged between 15 and 50, were intercepted on Sunday at Karota Luxurious Park, Hotoro Western Bye-Pass, while en route to Ghana and then Saudi Arabia for suspected labour exploitation.

NAPTIP Zonal Commander, Abdullahi Babale, confirmed that they were rescued by the Kano State Hisbah Board, in collaboration with NAPTIP. The victims hail from Kano, Katsina, Borno, Jigawa, and Zamfara states.

One suspect, Mohammed Saleh (45), was arrested, while efforts are ongoing to track other members of the trafficking network.

Babale stressed that the rescue aligns with the directive of NAPTIP’s Director-General, Hajiya Binta Adamu-Bello, to intensify intelligence operations against traffickers.

He commended the Kano Hisbah Board Commander-General, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, and the Kano State Government for their cooperation.

The rescued victims will undergo counselling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their families.

Babale urged parents to stay vigilant and warned citizens against traffickers who exploit economic hardship with false promises of jobs abroad.
