The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) has pledged to partner with The Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (ROLAC) programme to address gender-based violence against persons with disabilities.
– *Partnership*: NCPD and ROLAC will collaborate to develop effective strategies to tackle gender-based violence against persons with disabilities.
The partnership will focus on access to justice, essential services, and promoting positive social norms.
The collaboration aims at creating a safer and more inclusive environment for persons with disabilities, particularly women and girls.
NCPD’s Strategic Plans according to the report is to promote policies covering education, sexual reproductive health rights, and empowerment of women and girls with disabilities. Other objectives are to create awareness and sensitization on the rights of persons with disabilities empowering women and girls with disabilities through skills acquisition and economic empowerment programmes as well as tackling discrimination against women and girls with disabilities.
NCPD and ROLAC are expected to work together to develop a project document and implement programmes addressing gender-based violence against persons with disabilities.
The commission also wish to engage other relevant government agencies such as NSCDC, and the police to ensure effective response to cases of gender-based violence.
