The House of Representatives Committee on Public Asset has dismissed allegations of corrupt practices leveled against the Nigerian Electricity Liability Management Company (NELMCO) by a civil society group, the Association for Public Policy Analysis (APPA).
The committee found that NELMCO’s existence is backed by the provisions of the Nigeria Electricity Act, 2023.
The committee dismissed allegations of misappropriation of funds and shady operations leveled against NELMCO.
The committee found that NELMCO’s existence is backed by the Nigeria Electricity Act, 2023, contradicting the petitioner’s claim that the agency should have folded up in 2017.
NELMCO spent N94m on a five-day retreat in Lagos, which the committee deemed justifiable considering the dignitaries in attendance.
The committee found that the N94m expenditure on the retreat was justified, with costs including flights, logistics, food, and accommodation for 25 people.
The committee found no evidence to support the petitioner’s claim of NELMCO purchasing an office in the North.
The committee urged the petitioner to come forward with any subsequent findings, promising to do justice to every petition submitted before it in the interest of Nigerians.
