The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has successfully expanded the national grid capacity with an additional 120 megawatts (MW) of bulk power.
This was achieved through the energization of two new power transformers at the 330/132/33 kilovolt Birnin Kebbi Transmission Substation in Kebbi State.
Two new transformers, rated 100 megavolt-amperes (MVA) and 150 MVA, were brought online on June 27, 2025.
The substation’s capacity has been increased from 300 MVA to 450 MVA. The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) will now have an additional 120 MW of bulk power for distribution to customers across Kebbi, Sokoto, and surrounding areas.
This development ensures TCN can maintain a normal bulk power supply to Niamey, the capital of Niger Republic, reflecting Nigeria’s commitment to regional power agreements.
TCN reiterated its dedication to the ongoing expansion and maintenance of the nation’s transmission system.
The goal is to achieve a more effective and efficient bulk power transmission network nationwide.
