President Bola Tinubu has directed federal agencies to address concerns raised by the US and UAE regarding recent changes to their visa policies affecting Nigerian citizens.
The US government cited two main reasons for the changes which includes-High rate of visa overstays by Nigerian nationals as well as Challenges in obtaining reliable access to applicants’ records.
Tinubu directed Relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to work collaboratively to ensure Nigeria meets its international obligations.
“Enhance inter-governmental cooperation to authenticate the identities of Nigerians seeking consular services abroad. Improve data-sharing mechanisms and transparency in the visa application process” the President ordered.
However, the Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining and strengthening diplomatic relations with both countries.
Assured citizens that Nigeria’s foreign policy under the Tinubu administration prioritizes their dignity and respect globally.
