The President Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved new appointments into the governing councils and leadership of two recently upgraded Federal Universities of Education. Engineer Abdurrazaq Abubakar Nakore has been named Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano, while Prof. Abdullahi Tukur Kodage has been appointed as the institution’s Vice Chancellor.

Nakore, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, previously served as Executive Secretary of the Jigawa State Rural Electricity Board.

Also, the President appointed Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure as Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Kaduna State. A respected scholar in science education, Bunkure is currently the Vice Chancellor of Saadatu Rimi University of Education, Kano.

According to the Press Release today Wednesday, 3rd September, 2025 from the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education, Kano, and the Federal University of Education, Zaria, were amongst four Colleges of Education upgraded to full-fledged universities between 2022 and 2023.

In line with the governing laws of the institutions, the pro-chancellor will serve a four-year term, while the Vice Chancellors will each serve a tenure of five years.
