President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved sweeping changes in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces as part of his administration’s renewed effort to strengthen the nation’s security architecture.
In a statement issued from the State House on Friday, 24th October, 2025, the President appointed General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa.
Others are Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.
President Tinubu expressed profound appreciation to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff, General Musa, and the other Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership” to the nation.
He charged the newly appointed military heads to “justify the confidence reposed in them” by upholding the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
According to the statement signed by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, all the appointments take immediate effect.
