As 2027 general election is at top gear, no fewer than 289 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have moved to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sakwaya Ward, Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The defection took place on Friday at the PDP ward office, where the party’s deputy state Chairman, Umar Danjani, received the new members on behalf of the state Chairman.
Danjani noted that the development was significant for the party and assured the defectors of full integration into PDP activities. He also called for peaceful political engagement as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
A PDP ward leader, Mamuda Sakwaya, described the defection as an important step for the party at the grassroots level, while reaffirming the PDP’s commitment to addressing community needs.
Mrs Harira Sakwaya, wife of the APC ward chairman and leader of the defectors, explained that 273 women and 16 men were amongst those who switched allegiance. She said the decision followed dissatisfaction with APC’s performance in the area.
The event was attended by party officials and supporters.
