The Supreme Court of Nigeria has dismissed Asue Ighodalo’s appeal, affirming Monday Okpebholo as the Governor of Edo State.

The court held that Ighodalo and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) failed to prove allegations of over-voting, non-compliance with the Electoral Act, and other infractions.

The apex court unanimously dismissed Ighodalo’s appeal, stating that the appellants failed to prove their case.

Okpebholo was declared the winner of the Edo State governorship election with 291,667 votes, while Ighodalo polled 247,655 votes.

The Court of Appeal and the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had earlier affirmed Okpebholo’s election victory, dismissing Ighodalo’s petitions.

Ighodalo alleged over-voting, non-compliance with the Electoral Act, and incorrect collation of figures, but failed to provide sufficient evidence.

The Supreme Court’s judgment concludes the legal battle over the Edo State governorship election, upholding Okpebholo’s victory.
