Tension has gripped Nigeria’s camp as Super Eagles players and officials on Tuesday, 11th November, 2025, boycotted their training session ahead of Thursday’s decisive 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoff clash against Gabon.
The protest, confirmed by Nigerian sports photojournalist Sulaiman “Pooja” Adebayo, who is covering the tournament in Morocco, stemmed from lingering unpaid wages and allowances owed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
“Super Eagles players & officials boycott training today in Morocco because of unresolved issues with outstanding payments,” Adebayo posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Sources within the team described the boycott as a last-ditch effort to compel the NFF to fulfil its financial obligations before the crucial semi-final tie.
The development has sparked concern amongst fans and stakeholders, with fears that the standoff could disrupt team morale and jeopardise Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup finals in North America.
Nigeria is scheduled to face Gabon in the semi-final on Thursday, with the winner set to meet either Cameroon or the Democratic Republic of Congo in the final playoff round.
As the clock ticks toward kickoff, all eyes are on the NFF to swiftly resolve the crisis and ensure the Super Eagles take flight when it matters most.
