President Bola Tinubu recently visited Saint Lucia, where he met with Nigerians living in the country and counseled them to be law-abiding citizens. During the meeting, Tinubu promised to address some of the issues raised by Nigerians, including the high cost of work permits and the need for a diplomatic presence in Saint Lucia, which he has already committed to establishing.

Nigerians in Saint Lucia used the occasion to raise some issues confront them. According to the report, the Nigerias living in Lucia raised the issue of work permit which cost $2,500 annually. This is a significant burden for many Nigerians living in Saint Lucia.

They also used the forum to appeal to President Tinubu to establish a diplomatic mission in the country to facilitate easier interactions and resolve issues.

In response, President Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration would work to resolve their issues diplomatically.

Tinubu briefed the Nigerians on his government’s efforts to restore economic stability in Nigeria, highlighting progress made in rescuing the economy and stopping oil smuggling.

He counseled Nigerians to remain focused, work hard, and obey the laws of Saint Lucia, emphasizing that his administration would support professionals living abroad.

The visit is part of Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen ties with Caribbean nations and promote cultural exchange, aligning with the country’s “Four D’s” foreign policy framework: Democracy, Development, Diaspora, and Demography.
