The Presidency has denied reports linking Vice President Kashim Shettima’s remarks to the Rivers crisis, describing them as “gross misrepresentation” and “sensational reporting.”
The Office of the Vice President clarified that Shettima’s comments were taken out of context and had nothing to do with the current situation in Rivers State.
Shettima’s comments were made during a book launch in Abuja and referred to his personal experience during the Jonathan administration.
The Presidency stated that there is no connection between Shettima’s remarks and the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
President Bola Tinubu’s decision to suspend Governor Siminalayi Fubara was taken in accordance with Section 305(3)(c) of the Constitution, which authorizes extraordinary measures to restore peace and security.
The Presidency affirmed that Shettima stands in loyal concert with President Tinubu in implementing necessary actions to safeguard democracy.
The Presidency urged media organizations and political actors to desist from distorting statements and fabricating conflicts.
