Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has announced plans to establish a Nigerian Army operational base in Zuru Emirate to combat rising bandit attacks in the area. The decision follows recent attacks that left several people dead and livestock stolen in Tadurga village and Kyebu.

The state has secured Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and other equipment from Abuja to strengthen security.

Temporary accommodation is being provided for troops pending the construction of a permanent base.

Plans are underway to amend existing laws to prescribe death or life imprisonment for informants aiding bandits.

Traditional rulers have urged the government to increase military presence along border routes used by attackers.

Bandits have been terrorizing communities in Kebbi State, prompting the governor to seek federal support.

Governor Idris had previously requested the Defence Headquarters to establish a Military Operational Base at the border to tackle the bandits.
The governor plans to meet President Bola Tinubu to discuss the recent attacks and security measures.
