The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has reaffirmed its commitment to mental health advocacy through a renewed partnership with She Writes Woman, a leading non-profit championing psychosocial disability inclusion.
During a courtesy visit to the Commission, the Founder and Executive Director of She Writes Woman, Hauwa Ojeifo, alongside Jennifer Abomnger, restated their mission of giving mental health a voice in Nigeria by empowering persons with psychosocial disabilities to tell their stories and shape solutions.
The visit underscored a relationship that dates back three to four years, when both organizations jointly hosted the first ever Mental Health Roundtable at the Commission, an event that eventually led to the creation of the Mental Health Desk within NCPWD.
Expressing delight over the partnership, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD, Hon. Ayuba Burki Gufwan, applauded the work of She Writes Woman in amplifying the voices of persons with psychosocial disabilities.
“Disability inclusion is the responsibility of all,” Hon. Gufwan said. “We look forward to deepening our partnership with She Writes Woman and other organizations to advance the cause of persons with disabilities in Nigeria.”
Discussions at the meeting explored new areas of collaboration, including a capacity building workshop to strengthen NCPWD’s institutional framework and improve psychosocial disability mainstreaming within its mandate.
The renewed collaboration marks a critical step toward ensuring mental health and psychosocial disabilities remain central to Nigeria’s broader disability inclusion agenda.
