The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) recently distributed fertilizers and farming tools to persons with disabilities in Nigeria, aiming to empower them in the agricultural sector.

This initiative is part of the Commission’s broader goal to support and enhance the lives of persons with disabilities.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Hon. Ayuba Gufuwan ably represented by Mr Lawrence Idemudia, reiterated the Commission’s dedication to empowering Persons with Disabilities adding that “This distribution is part of our broader goal to support and enhance the lives of Persons with Disabilities. We have more initiatives in the pipeline to further empower our beneficiaries” he said.

The distribution took place on June 7, 2025, with beneficiaries grouped into clusters. Representatives from eight organizations benefited from the initiative, including:
Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Nigerian Association of the Blind, Nigerian National Association of the Deaf, Albinism Association of Nigeria, Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disability of Nigeria, National Association of Persons with Physical Disabilities, Spinal Cord Association of Nigeria, and Parsons Affected by Leprosy.

NCPWD is committed to providing assistive technologies that facilitate the production of goods and services by persons with disabilities.

NCPWD launched an Agricultural Skills Training and Empowerment Program for Persons with Disabilities in Plateau State, with a week-long training session held from May 19 to 24, 2025.

NCPWD has partnered with organizations like the Nigerian Agribusiness Group (NABG) to promote disability inclusion in agribusiness and the Policy Support for Economic Growth (PSEG) to integrate persons with disabilities into Nigeria’s agricultural policy framework.
