A coalition of civil society organizations in Lagos has staged a peaceful protest over the alleged wrongful displacement of residents and landowners in Okun Ajah, a community affected by the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project.
The group also demanded the immediate release of one of their members, Obanla, who was allegedly detained during the land clearance exercise.
The coalition demanded justice for displaced residents, compensation for losses, and an end to “militarised evictions.”
Obanla was allegedly abducted by military personnel at the Winhomes project site, and his whereabouts remain unknown.
The group accused government officials and private developers of intimidation and dispossessing lawful landowners.
The coalition submitted a petition to the Ministry of Works, which assured them that their grievances would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.
The protesters vowed to sustain their campaign until justice is served, emphasizing that their struggle is not just about their detained colleague but also about defending the rights of all affected communities.
