In what many Nigerians are calling a classic case of irony, a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) patrol vehicle recently went up in flames, reigniting public criticism that many of the government agency’s vehicles do not have fire extinguishers despite routinely arresting motorists for the same offence.

Eyewitnesses who captured the burning vehicle on video expressed shock and disbelief as officers were seen helplessly watching the blaze consume their patrol van, reportedly without any fire extinguisher in sight.

The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, has drawn widespread reactions, with Nigerians mocking the irony of road safety officials failing to meet the very standards they enforce.

“This is the height of hypocrisy,” one social media user commented. “They arrest drivers for not having fire extinguishers, yet their own vehicles are burning without one.”

The FRSC has not yet issued an official statement on the incident, but the episode has sparked fresh debate about accountability and double standards within law enforcement agencies.

For many Nigerians, the fiery spectacle served as both a cautionary tale and an uncomfortable reflection of a system where enforcement often outpaces compliance.
