Online news platform, Insight Links has responded to the Osun State Government’s rebuttal over on its recently report, alleging that Governor Ademola Adeleke granted amnesty to one Ganiyu Kehinde, a man who reportedly confessed to killing of his Ghanaian friend for money ritual and 35 other inmates serving jail terms in Ilesa and Ife correctional centres.

In a statement issued on Sunday 5th October, 2025, the media organisation accused the state government of “launching an attack” on its credibility rather than addressing the substance of the story.

“Having perused the statement, we found out that the government was more interested in attacking Insight Links than engaging the public,” the statement read. “The government demanded a retraction but did not advance any justification for it.”

The outlet faulted the government for allegedly “deflecting responsibility” to the Nigerian Correctional Service, saying there was no evidence that the state conducted any independent investigation before approving the list of pardoned inmates.

“It is on the public knowledge that murder is a crime against the state, and it is the duty of any responsible government to prosecute it,” Insight Links maintained that Kehinde had earlier confessed to killing his friend for ritual purposes.

The statement questioned whether the said Kehinde was ever charged or convicted for murder, calling on the state government to publish his photograph and those of the other 35 pardoned inmates “to assure the public that the right persons were released.”

The news outlet questions are “Was Kehinde Ganiyu charged for stealing instead of murder? Is he still in custody? Has he been convicted? When was the last trial if he has not been convicted?”

The organisation further alleged that some of the pardoned inmates might be “political touts” released ahead of the coming elections, insisting that only transparency could quell public suspicion.

To ease the tension according to the statement, government should release the photographs and offenses of the released inmates to the public. The statement added that, “if Osun State Government had set up a committee of reputable religious leaders, CSOs, and senior lawyers to review the list, we would not be here.”

Insight Links reaffirmed its confidence and stood by the earlier report except there is a further clarification from the government that removes our doubt. If this is done, the outlet promised and ready to update the public on the subject matter.

“We stand by our story. However, we are open to collaboration with the state government to enlighten the public and de-escalate tension once the photographs and details of Kehinde Ganiyu and the other pardoned inmates are made public,” the organisation stressed.

The management of Insight Link reiterated its commitment to “impacting and enlightening the people with accurate information.”
