The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced fresh figures in the ongoing nationwide voter registration exercise, with more than 4.4 million Nigerians completed online pre-registration in just four weeks.
This is contained in a statement issued on Monday by the INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun. A total number of 4,445,505 citizens had pre-registered online as of Sunday, September 14, 2025, since the inception of the exercise on August 18.
According to him, the breakdown shows that 2,141,294 (48.17%) are male while 2,304,211 (51.83%) are female. The young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 dominated the process with 2,924,643 (65.79%), as students accounted for 1,112,344 (25.02%) of registrants.
Olumekun further stated that upon the completion of registrations, which include both online pre-registration and physical (in-person) registration, INEC recorded 509,929 entries as of Friday, September 12, 2025 in which out of these, 229,758 (45.06%) were male and female 280,171 (54.94%). The youth led the numbers with 378,132 (74.15%) while the students accounted for 196,529 students representing (38.54%).
The statement from the Commission further read that detailed breakdowns by state, gender, age, occupation, and disability have been uploaded on its official platforms for public access.
Meanwhile, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as being confirmed by the INEC, said online pre-registration ends today, September 15, 2025. For the next two weeks, physical registration will continue at designated centres before the process devolves to all 62 wards in the FCT between September 29 and October 8, 2025.
Olumekun reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to expanding voter access, urging Nigerians to take advantage of the registration window ahead of the 2027 general elections.
