The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released supplementary regulations and guidelines for reviewing election results in Nigeria.

According to INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, the new guidelines clarify procedures and timelines for reviewing election results not declared in accordance with the law ¹.

Section 65 of the Electoral Act 2022 empowers INEC to review declarations and returns of results that were not made voluntarily or done contrary to the law, regulations, or guidelines for the election.

Provided to guide the review process, as outlined in Supplementary No.1 to the main regulations and guidelines for the conduct of elections 2022.

The supplementary regulations and guidelines have been uploaded to INEC’s website and other platforms for public information.

INEC has received 122 applications, including 12 new ones, and has uploaded the list of new applications to its website.

INEC has appealed to associations to maintain consistency in their proposed leadership and addresses to facilitate timely consideration of their applications.
