The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has dismissed as “baseless and unfounded” allegations by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) that the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in the state has produced “statistically implausible figures.”
The Public Relations Officer, Mr.Musa Olurode, on behalf of the Osun INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke, issued a statement and clarified that the high turnout recorded so far was in line with Osun’s history of civic responsibility.
According to him, Osun has consistently led the federation in online pre-registration during previous exercises, including the 2022 governorship election and the 2023 general elections, adding that “This is not conjecture but a verifiable fact from official INEC records,” said Olurode.
The PRO stressed that online pre-registration does not confer voter status unless validated by biometric capture at designated centers, warning against attempts to mislead the public. “The ADC’s claim of statistical implausibility is untrue. The figures recorded so far are consistent with the State’s history of active civic engagement and should be celebrated, not disparaged,” he added.
He further urged political parties to verify information before rushing to the press with unfounded allegations, noting that misinformation undermines democracy. Instead, parties are implored to channel their energy into sensitizing and mobilizing eligible voters to participate in the CVR.
Olurode reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency, credibility, and inclusiveness, saying the impressive turnout in Osun was the result of sustained enlightenment campaigns embarked upon by the commission. “We will not be distracted by unsubstantiated claims but will continue to discharge our mandate with fairness, integrity, and transparency,” he concluded.
