The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Osun State has announced that political campaigns for the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election will officially commence on Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
The electoral body disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, 10th March,2026 by the Public Affairs Officer of INEC in the state, Musa Olurode, in Osogbo.
According to the commission, the commencement of campaigns follows the Timetable and Schedule of Activities released for the forthcoming governorship election scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
INEC urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully and in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 and the commission’s regulations guiding political activities.
The commission specifically warned against the use of abusive language, hate speech, violence and other actions capable of disrupting public peace during the campaign period.
INEC also encouraged political actors to focus on issue-based campaigns that will allow voters to make informed choices during the election.
“The Commission urges all political parties, candidates and their supporters to conduct their campaigns in a peaceful and orderly manner in strict compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 as well as the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties,” the statement read.”
The electoral body further appealed to all stakeholders, including political parties, security agencies, civil society organisations, the media and the general public, to play active roles in ensuring a peaceful political atmosphere across the state.
INEC Osun State noted that under the leadership of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, the commission remains committed to working with relevant stakeholders to guarantee a credible, inclusive, transparent and violence-free governorship election in the state.
The governorship election in Osun State is scheduled to take place on August 15, 2026.
