The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally released the official timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, setting out key election dates and preparatory activities for political parties and voters nationwide.

Under the timetable unveiled by the commission. While the Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 20, 2027, Governorship and State Assembly elections will follow on Saturday, March 6, 2027.

The commission said these dates comply with constitutional timelines linked to the expiration of current office holders’ tenures. In a bid to strengthen electoral credibility, INEC reaffirmed its commitment to the continued use of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), the device used for voter accreditation and result uploads and a hybrid system of both electronic and physical result transmission to enhance transparency and accuracy in the collation process.

The timetable also outlines preparatory activities including; Nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) from April 2026 to January 2027. Political party primaries between July 1 and September 30, 2026. Candidate list submissions in October 2026 with publication of final lists by November 15, 2026 and Campaign periods leading up to each election date.

INEC stressed that adherence to the timetable is crucial for a smooth and credible electoral process and urged all stakeholders, political parties, civic groups, and citizens to begin preparations.

With these dates now officially confirmed, Nigeria has formally commenced its countdown to the 2027 general election season.
