The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that eight out of fourteen pre-qualified political associations have successfully completed the initial phase of the registration process required to become fully recognized political parties in Nigeria.
This development was contained in a statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun after the Commission’s meeting held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Abuja.
According to INEC, the move follows the earlier briefing held for the fourteen pre-qualified associations on September 17, 2025, after which the Commission opened a dedicated online portal for the upload of necessary documents from September 18 to October 18, 2025.
As of the October 19, 2025, the following eight associations had successfully met the submission requirements:
1. All Democratic Alliance (ADA)
2. Citizens Democratic Alliance (CDA)
3. Abundance Social Party (ASP)
4. African Alliance Party (AAP)
5. Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA)
6. Green Future Party (GFP)
7. National Democratic Party (NDP)
8. Peoples Freedom Party (PFP)
INEC stated that the next stage of the process would involve a detailed assessment and verification of the documents and information provided by each association to ensure compliance with the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2022, and the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties (2022).
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and the deepening of Nigeria’s democratic culture through fair and credible registration procedures.
