The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in tackling vote buying and other corrupt practices ahead of the forthcoming elections in the state.
The Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner of ICPC, Prince Yusuf Olatunji, made this known on Thursday, September 25, 2025, during a courtesy visit to the INEC office, Osogbo, Osun State.
He explained that the ICPC’s mandate extends beyond enforcement of law to prevent and enlightenment, adding that the sensitisation of INEC staff on rejecting corruption was a proactive measure to safeguard electoral integrity.
“Our work is not just about enforcement alone, Prevention and enlightenment are equally important. That is why we are engaging with INEC staff to resist corruption at all levels,” he stated.
While responding, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Osun State, Dr. Mutiu Agboke, welcomed the initiative, believing that the electoral process is a collective responsibility. He assured his visitor that INEC would continue to galvanise members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) towards credible polls.
Describing the conduct of the next election as a “serious national assignment,” Dr. Agboke underscored the urgency of early strategy mapping to guarantee success.
He warned against vote buying, insisting that both buyers and sellers must face the law: “Vote buying must be fought squarely. Those who engage in it should be arrested and prosecuted to serve as deterrence.” Agboke emphasized.
He urged the ICPC to focus on corrupt related issues involving electoral officials while assuring Nigerians that INEC remains committed to ensuring that every vote counts.
