The House of Representatives has confirmed the discovery of the body of an unidentified individual inside a vehicle parked around the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
As it contained in a statement by the House Spokesman, Rep. Akin Rotimi Jr., the deceased, suspected to be a labourer at an ongoing construction site within the complex, was found on Sunday morning in the back seat of a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR 577 BF.
The vehicle according to the statement was parked near the Annex Building Gate, close to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF). The Police reports further indicated that the body, discovered in a sleeping position, was already in an advanced state of decomposition.
The Nigeria Police Force, which is leading the investigations, has since evacuated the remains of the deceased to the mortuary with the view to establish it’s identity and notify the family. “The House considers it a duty to keep the public properly informed in order to prevent speculation and misinformation,” Rotimi said, adding that the leadership of the National Assembly is in close contact with security agencies to ensure a thorough investigation.
While commending the police for their swift response, the House extended condolences to the yet-to-be-identified family of the deceased and assured that further updates would be communicated transparently as investigations continue.
