Fear gripped parts of Kogi State on Wednesday, 10th September, 2025 after gunmen launched coordinated attacks, killing police officers in Yagba West and abducting 17 passengers along the Lokoja–Obajana highway.

While confirming the incident, the state government described the attack as “grave security breaches” but commended the Nigerian Army and local hunters for swiftly rescuing all abducted passengers.

“The 17 kidnapped passengers were rescued after a hot pursuit by the Army and local hunters and they have since been taken to medical facilities for care,” the government announced.

The attack on security personnel in Yagba West left several policemen dead. The state condoled with the families of the fallen officers, hailing them as heroes who paid the supreme price in defence of peace.

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo vowed to crush criminal elements, adding that deployments of personnel and security equipment to flashpoints had already been stepped up. “We will never submit to acts of terror. Together with our security agencies and the support of our people, we will overcome those who seek to disrupt the peace of our land,” Ododo assured.

The Commissioner of Information, Kingsley Femi Fanwo urged residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing intelligence to aid the hunt for perpetrators.
