Tension gripped the residents of Osun State on Monday night, after gunmen made a daring attempt on the life of the Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, High Chief Dr. Adekunle Isaac Omoyele.
Omoyele was reportedly ambushed by unknown assailants while returning home from his office late on Monday, 6th October, 2025. The attackers opened fire on his vehicle, leaving him with gunshot injuries. He was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he is said to be in a stable condition under tight security watch.
The shocking incident has triggered outrage across the state, with the Chairman of the Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps, AIG Wale Abbas (Rtd), describing the attack as “cowardly, unprovoked, and a direct assault on the peace of Osun State.”
In a strongly worded Press Release on Tuesday, 7th October, 2025, through the Corps’ Public Relations Officer, Yusuf Idowu Abass, AIG Abbas condemned the attempt on the life of the commander, calling it a deliberate plot to silence a key figure in the fight against crime.
“This is not just an attack on one man, it’s an attack on the stability of our dear state,” he said. “We will not be intimidated. Those behind this heinous act will be hunted down and brought to justice.”
He urged the Police and other security agencies to leave no stone unturned in their investigation, even as he appealed to residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with law enforcement officers.
“Let it be known that this act of cowardice will only strengthen our resolve to rid Osun of the criminal elements. We urge citizens to stand united against violence and continue supporting security personnel,” he added.
The attack according to Omoyele comes amid renewed efforts by Amotekun to clamp down on rising cases of kidnapping and armed robbery across parts of the state. Security insiders suggest that recent operations targeting criminal hideouts may have provoked retaliatory moves from criminal gangs.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up around major Amotekun formations and command offices in the state, as authorities intensify efforts to track down the attackers.
Residents of Osun have since taken to social media to express concern and solidarity with the embattled Corps Commander, whose leadership has been credited with several major breakthroughs in the state’s fight against insecurity.
