The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has recovered another stolen vehicle in Lagos, reinforcing its expanding role in crime prevention and national security enforcement.

The breakthrough occurred on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at about 5:11 p.m., when operatives of the Corps attached to RS2.1114 Isolo Unit Command apprehended a Toyota Sienna (ash colour) with registration number LSD438GK for Vehicle Licence Violation (VLV). The driver was unable to present valid vehicle documents during a routine patrol check, prompting officers to impound the vehicle in line with standard enforcement procedures.

However, what initially appeared to be a simple traffic infraction soon unfolded into a major recovery operation.

Subsequent verification revealed that the vehicle had earlier been reported stolen, while the driver had already been declared wanted. In a related development, officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Ajao Division, on Monday handed the suspect over to the FRSC Command in handcuffs for necessary action.

The Corps described the recovery as further evidence of its strengthened operational intelligence and the effectiveness of routine patrol enforcement in intercepting criminal activities linked to vehicle theft.

The success is also being attributed to the deployment of the National Vehicle Identification Scheme (NVIS), a digital verification and traceability platform that has significantly improved vehicle tracking and authentication nationwide. Through NVIS, the Corps has recorded multiple recoveries of stolen vehicles, dismantling syndicates involved in vehicle theft and identity manipulation.

According to FRSC, the scheme has enhanced inter-agency collaboration, promoted transparency in vehicle registration processes, and contributed meaningfully to national security efforts.

Reacting to the development, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed commended the vigilance and professionalism of the enforcement team, reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to leveraging technology, intelligence, and strategic partnerships to safeguard lives and property on Nigerian roads.

The FRSC reiterated that enforcement operations go beyond traffic compliance, stressing that they also serve as critical tools for crime prevention and public safety.

Motorists were advised to ensure proper documentation of their vehicles and cooperate fully with patrol operatives during routine checks.
