The Federal Government has appointed the Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), Professor Adenike Oladiji, as a member of the Ministerial Monitoring, Evaluation and Implementation Committee on the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) Special High Impact Intervention Project.
Her appointment was conveyed in a letter from the Federal Ministry of Education, which cited her “distinguished professional background, experience, and contribution to the Engineering, Technology, and Education ecosystem” as key considerations for her selection.
According to the Ministry, the high-level committee is mandated to monitor, evaluate and oversee the implementation of the Federal Government’s strategic intervention aimed at strengthening engineering and technology education across selected Federal Universities of Technology and conventional universities.
The initiative represents a deliberate effort by the Federal Government to enhance the quality of engineering and technology training, with emphasis on practical, hands-on skills acquisition, industry relevance, innovation and applied research, rather than purely theoretical instruction.
Speaking at the inauguration of the committee on Monday, March 2, 2026, in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, charged members to ensure strict compliance with approved standards and timelines.
“Your mandate is clear: monitor project execution, ensure compliance with approved specifications and timelines, evaluate outcomes, identify challenges, and provide objective reports to guide policy decisions. You are entrusted with safeguarding public investment and ensuring value for money. Every facility delivered under the intervention must reflect quality, sustainability and relevance to national needs,” the Minister said.
He described the High-Impact Intervention Project as a strategic initiative designed to upgrade laboratories, workshops and research facilities, thereby positioning Nigerian universities as hubs of innovation and practical problem-solving.
“Funding alone does not guarantee results. Success depends on effective implementation, strict adherence to standards, transparency and accountability, which is why this committee is both necessary and timely,” he added.
FUTA is among the beneficiary institutions of the N50 billion Federal Government intervention earmarked for the upgrade of existing facilities and the construction of new engineering workshops where necessary.
The intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which places strong emphasis on skills development, technological advancement and economic diversification.
Professor Oladiji’s inclusion in the committee is widely seen as a recognition of her leadership and contributions to engineering and technology education, as well as a boost to FUTA’s role in advancing national development objectives.
