The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan as a clear vindication of its earlier decision to support Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke’s re-election bid on the platform of the Accord Party.
In a ruling delivered on Friday, the Federal High Court nullified the purported PDP National Convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15, 2025, declaring it invalid and of no legal effect.
The court further barred Alhaji Taminu Turaki and others who emerged from the convention from parading themselves as national officers of the party. It also affirmed that the Caretaker Committee led by Ambassador Abdulrahman, alongside Senator Samuel Anyanwu, remains the only recognised National Working Committee of the PDP pending the conduct of a valid and lawful national convention.
Reacting to the judgment, the Osun State PDP said the ruling validates its “principled and foresighted” stance in backing Governor Adeleke’s decision to seek re-election outside the PDP at a time the party was engulfed in a protracted national leadership crisis.
According to the party, leading the governor and the people of Osun State into an internally fractured PDP platform would have resulted in avoidable confusion, electoral uncertainty, and sabotage capable of undermining governance and the popular mandate of the administration.
The party leadership noted that the decision taken by the State Working Committee, under the chairmanship of Hon. Sunday Bisi, was guided solely by the collective interest of the people of Osun State, the protection of democratic stability, and the continuity of developmental governance.
“The events unfolding today have proven beyond doubt that our action was neither whimsical nor self-serving, but a courageous intervention aimed at safeguarding the mandate freely given to Governor Ademola Adeleke and preserving the developmental vision of his administration,” the party stated.
The Osun PDP reassured residents of the state that it remains committed to taking decisions anchored on the welfare of the masses, warning against what it described as “unproductive political adventurism” and ego-driven actions that run counter to the state’s progress.
It also urged the people of Osun State to disregard the activities of what it called “congenital detractors and political masquerades,” accusing them of working against the interests of the state through persistent acts of vendetta and destabilisation.
While calling on all factions involved in the PDP’s national leadership dispute to urgently pursue an amicable and lawful resolution, the Osun PDP appealed to residents to remain steadfast in their support for Governor Adeleke’s people-oriented leadership.
The statement was signed by the Osun State PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, and dated January 30, 2026.
