The political atmosphere in Osun State intensified on Saturday, 14th February,2026 as the All Progressives Congress (APC) officially received a wave of high-profile defectors at a grand rally in Osogbo, with the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), declaring the event the beginning of a new political order in the state.

Amongst those welcomed into the APC fold were Senator Fadahunsi, Senator Ajagunla, Hon. Oluwole Oke, Hon. Taofeek Ajilesoro, Hon. Sanya Ominrin and thousands of their supporters from across the state and diaspora.

Addressing party faithful and supporters, Oyebamiji described the development as a turning point ahead of the 2026 governorship election, stressing the defectors’ decision signaled growing confidence in the progressive agenda.

He said the party was now positioned to form what he called a “truly people-centered government” that would ensure equitable development across Osun State.

According to him, the decision by the political heavyweights to join the APC at a crucial moment demonstrated courage and commitment to the welfare of citizens, adding that their entry is a clear pointer as well as strengthening the party’s grassroots reach and electoral chances.

Oyebamiji added that the movement into the APC showed the progressive vision remained the most viable path for development and stability, warning that the state could not afford what he described as administrative decline and economic uncertainty.

He urged politicians and stakeholders to rise above partisan interests and unite to rebuild the state, emphasizing that the mission was about protecting the future of the people rather than personal ambition.

The APC candidate also linked the party’s state agenda to reforms being implemented at the federal level, stating that economic policies of the APC-led administration were already providing fiscal stability for subnational governments and creating opportunities for the long-term growth.

Looking ahead to the 2026 and 2027 elections, Oyebamiji stressed that unity within the party remained non-negotiable, calling on leaders, youths and grassroots mobilisers to work together to secure victory.

He assured the new entrants of inclusion in party decision-making processes, describing the APC in Osun as a family where every contribution would be valued.

The rally drew a large crowd of supporters, marking one of the biggest political gatherings in the state in recent months and signalling a potentially heated contest as preparations intensify for the forthcoming governorship election.
