Mustapha Hamza Buhari Bakwana, a close ally of APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State. Bakwana, a former Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Ganduje during his governorship tenure, cited neglect and frustration within the APC as reasons for his departure. He also resigned as Senior Legislative Aide to Deputy Senate President Barau Jibril.
Bakwana expressed feelings of being sidelined and betrayed by APC leaders, stating, “We gave everything to the APC — time, loyalty, sweat. But what did we get in return? Silence, neglect, and betrayal. Enough is enough”.
He chose to join the NNPP due to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s strong leadership and commitment to his people.
Bakwana’s departure may signal deeper internal divisions within the APC, particularly in Kano State, where tensions between Ganduje’s loyalists and current state leadership have intensified.
This defection could be a significant blow to the APC’s ground structure in Kano ahead of the 2027 elections.
