Chief George Kadiri, the surety for James Nolan, a British national implicated in the alleged $9.6 billion Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) scam, has been arrested and produced in court.
Nolan, a director at P&ID, was granted N100 million bail by Justice Ahmed Mohammed on August 18, 2020.
However, he jumped bail, prompting the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to apply for a bench warrant for his arrest.
On September 28, 2022, Justice Mohammed revoked Nolan’s bail and issued a bench warrant for his arrest. The judge also directed Kadiri to appear in court to show cause why his bail bond shouldn’t be forfeited.
Kadiri, a traditional chief in Gwagwalada, Abuja, was arrested and produced before Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court on July 17, 2025. The court adjourned the matter until November 5 for further proceedings and a hearing on the issue of forfeiture of the bail bond.
Nolan is standing trial in about eight other cases related to the alleged $9.6 billion contract awarded to P&ID, with charge numbers FHC/ABJ/CR/144/2020, FHC/ABJ/CR/145/2020, FHC/ABJ/CR/146/2020, FHC/ABJ/CR/147/2020, and FHC/ABJ/CR/148/2020, among others.
Justice Lifu released Kadiri to Chief Paul Erokoro, SAN, on bail, with the condition that he be produced in court until the issue of forfeiture of the bail bond is resolved or determined by the court.
