The APC and PDP are kicking off their 2027 election plans with crucial National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.
The PDP will have its 101st NEC meeting on Friday, July 25, 2025 which will decide the date of its national convention and elect new national officers to lead the party through the primaries and 2027 general election.
The party is dealing with internal conflicts, including defections to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and a crisis over the National Secretary position.
The APC will meet on Thursday, July 24, 2025 to ratify a new National Chairman, replacing Dr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, who resigned on June 27, 2025 due to health reasons.
The meeting will also approve standing committee members and discuss the party’s congress timetable.
Big names expected at these meetings include President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and other top party officials.
There’s anxiety surrounding the PDP NEC meeting due to collapsed trust and suspicion after key defections. The Osun State PDP’s endorsement of President Tinubu for re-election has also caused disquiet within the party.
