The Federal Government has fulfilled its 31-year-old promise to allocate houses to members of the 1994 Super Eagles squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development announced this development on June 25, 2025, stating that housing units are being allocated to team members across various states.
Members of the 1994 Super Eagles squad, including former striker Efan Ekoku, who received an allocation letter for a house in Abuja.
Ekoku’s niece, Lisa Jenifer Nwagbogun, represented him at the brief ceremony where the Director and Head of the Department of Public Building and Housing Development, Pemi Temitope, presented the letter.
Temitope described the gesture as part of the government’s commitment to honoring those who brought glory to the nation, saying it showcases the government’s dedication to recognizing patriotic service.
Nwagbogun expressed gratitude to the government and ministry for fulfilling the long-standing promise, stating it restores faith in public promises being kept.
The promise was initially made in 1994, and former President Muhammadu Buhari approved its implementation in 2022, nearly three decades later.
The allocation of houses is being carried out in different parts of the country, depending on each player’s preferred location.
