Political tension is escalating in Kaduna State after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) distanced itself from an event linked to former governor Nasir El-Rufai, which was marred by allegations of gunfire and violence.
In a statement signed by State Publicity Secretary Engr. Musa Idris, the ADC described the purported “Official Inauguration Ceremony of the APC, PDP, SDP, LP, NNPP to ADC Transition Committee” as illegitimate.
The party stressed that El-Rufai is not a registered member and accused him of attempting to destabilize its structures.
ADC State Chairman Elder Patrick Ambut said El-Rufai had earlier promised to register with the party after recent bye-elections but failed to do so, while continuing to “parade himself as leader” and create unconstitutional positions.
Meanwhile, Kaduna police confirmed they are investigating the event following reports that political thugs fired gunshots, disrupting public peace.
Police spokesperson DSP Mansir Hassan warned that anyone found culpable, “no matter how highly placed,” would face the law.
The ADC leadership reaffirmed its loyalty to the rule of law and called for intervention from the party’s national leadership to prevent further division ahead of the 2027 general elections.
