The Surveyor General of the Federation (SGOF), Abduganiyu Adeyemi Adebomehin, has emphasized the importance of mapping in combating insecurity in Nigeria.
He reiterated that security agents and practitioners should always acknowledge his office when planning security strategies, as mapping is a crucial part of security architecture.
Adebomehin stressed that mapping is essential for national security, citing that his office has digitized maps for each state with attached databases, except where data is insufficient.
The SGOF lamented the lack of consistent collaboration between his office and some security agencies, stating that while some agencies recognize the Office’s role, others overlook its relevance entirely.
Adebomehin mentioned that his office has digitalized everything, offering to provide maps to security agencies that subscribe to their services.
Ike Okoronkwo, Group Managing Director of Nembe Exploration and Production Company Limited and a University of Lagos alumnus with a degree in Surveying, corroborated the importance of the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation in special data mapping, management, and marketing.
“Leveraging geospatial data and mapping expertise can support security agencies in identifying and eliminating threats across the country” he said.
“Accurate mapping can inform security planning, reducing the risk of ineffective operations and enhancing national safety” he concluded.
